Witness to Mass Incarceration is a digital library of individuals whose lives and the lives of their family will be memorialized. Our goal is to place women's and LGBTQIA people’s experience at the center of the fight for alternatives to mass incarceration. We work to change the narrative from invisibility and victimization to empowerment through documentation, organizing and advocacy.
It is our conviction at Witness that mass incarceration will only be reduced and changed when the nation understands the extent of the injustice and horror of the entire criminal justice system. We believe that once a person sees the human faces of incarcerated people and hears their story, they will be more likely to support alternatives to incarceration.
