Sewing instructor

This is an in person Sewing Instructor internship. We are located in Long Island City, NY. We are teaching a class of 25 system impacted youth ages 18-24.  

 
 

 
 

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Teach sewing skills to program participants, including basic stitching, garment construction, and pattern reading.  

  • Assist in planning and developing class curriculums and hands-on workshops.  

  • Provide guidance to students on sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques.  

  • Ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.  

  • Maintain classroom materials, including fabrics, threads, and tools.  

  • Help students with creative sewing projects and troubleshooting sewing machine issues.  

  • Document student progress and provide feedback for skill development.   

 
 
 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in sewing, tailoring, or fashion design.  

  • Prior teaching or mentoring experience preferred but not required.  

  • Strong communication skills and patience in instructing diverse learners.  

  • Knowledge of different sewing techniques and tools.  

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  

  • Passion for economic empowerment and skill-building for marginalized communities.
