Sewing instructor
This is an in person Sewing Instructor internship. We are located in Long Island City, NY. We are teaching a class of 25 system impacted youth ages 18-24.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
Teach sewing skills to program participants, including basic stitching, garment construction, and pattern reading.
Assist in planning and developing class curriculums and hands-on workshops.
Provide guidance to students on sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques.
Ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Maintain classroom materials, including fabrics, threads, and tools.
Help students with creative sewing projects and troubleshooting sewing machine issues.
Document student progress and provide feedback for skill development.
Qualifications:
Experience in sewing, tailoring, or fashion design.
Prior teaching or mentoring experience preferred but not required.
Strong communication skills and patience in instructing diverse learners.
Knowledge of different sewing techniques and tools.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Passion for economic empowerment and skill-building for marginalized communities.
