Nya Herron

Nya Herron is a junior at Colgate University, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Writing and Rhetoric. From Buffalo, NY, Nya has been an active member in her community, volunteering for nonprofits dedicated to women’s professional development and bridging the gap between education and employment. Nya’s passions are exercised on campus through her position as a staff writer for Colgate’s paper, the Maroon News, advocating for racial justice and progressive political change, as well as her position as a research assistant, analyzing data to bring to light the injustices Black girls and women face in the carceral state. Through her experiences and intensive coursework, Nya is increasingly committed to fighting for prison abolition and for the humanity of those most vulnerable and unprotected in our society. She strongly believes in the honorable mission of WITNESS and is committed to doing everything in her power to have the goals of WITNESS come into fruition.
